Congolese-born striker Bob Mugalia was today handed a call to play for Kenya in this month's CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup tournament in Tanzania, becoming the first ever foreign player to do so.
The 19-year-old player, who turns out for former national league champions, Sofapaka, earns the honour after Kenya accepted to allow foreigners to obtain dual citizenship under its new national constitution.
Mugalia and fellow striker Abdulmalik Mohammed of Gor Mahia are the only new faces in a 20-member squad named on Friday by Harambee Stars coach Jacob "Ghost" Mulee for the regional championships starting in Dar es Salaam and Mwanza on November 24 to December 11.
Kenya is drawn to play defending champions Uganda, four-time champions, Ethiopia and guests Malawi in Group C of the 13-team competition, which will also feature the Ivorian national team, the Elephants, as another guest side.
Other competing teams will be hosts Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia, Zanzibar and Zambia.
