Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely be looking to bolster his options during the January transfer window, as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours on all fronts this season.
One particular area of concern for the Argentine will be his forward department, what with Fernando Llorente struggling to establish himself at the club, following his summer switch from Swansea City.
With Harry Kane guaranteed to play if he is fit, Tottenham need to sign someone who is happy to play second fiddle to the 24-year-old, but equally, any potential signing needs to be good enough to deputise for the England international, as and when required to do so.
Spanish media outlet Marca claim that Spurs are closely monitoring Villarreal ace Cedric Bakambu, with a view to making a January bid for the striker.
Would the 26-year-old be a useful addition to the Tottenham squad though? Or would the north London outfit be repeating an all too familiar mistake by bringing an unproven quantity to the Premier League?
The Democratic Republic of the Congo international is hardly the most prolific of strikers. He has scored just 79 goals in 226 career appearances.
It is also debatable whether he would be able to cope with the rigours of the Premier League, what with its' robust nature.
Despite standing at 6ft tall, Bakambu is surprisingly lightweight, and he might just find it difficult to adapt to the physical nature of the English game.
Tottenham made the mistake of signing Roberto Soldado in 2013, based purely on his impressive goalscoring record in La Liga, and they would be wise to remember that costly error, if they are in fact lining up a move for the Villarreal star.
With this in mind, Pochettino might just be best served in avoiding a move for the pacey forward, and focus instead on bringing someone with Premier League experience to the club, or at least a striker with attributes more suited to the demands of English football.
