D'après Todays Zaman...journal turc?...Nonda refuserait de partir..."I'm going nowhere"...
January transfer window gets under way in earnest
Where is Trabzonspor striker Gökhan Ünal going? The player himself does not know; however, the rumor mongers know better.
Another January has come and, as usual, the one-month transfer window is officially in full swing with clubs, some of them already strapped for cash and highly in debt, scouting for new players to improve the performance of their teams.
But no big-name transfers have materialized so far, although the local sports media is busy manufacturing scenarios -- some with elements of truth in them and some mere fabrications.
The two names regularly mentioned nowadays by the local sports media are strikers Gökhan Ünal of Trabzonspor and Sercan Yıldırım of Bursaspor. However, the case of the teenage Sercan is a tough call, because all the big clubs want him and Bursa wants to keep him.
The Galatasaray Lions, neck deep in debt, have declared their interest in slumping Gökhan, acquired by Trabzonspor from Kayserispor last season for 6.25 million euros. And reports last week had it that Trabzonspor asked the Lions to swap Democratic Republic of the Congo striker Shabani Christophe Nonda, Turkey left back Hakan Kadir Balta plus 2 million euros for Gökhan.
But Galatasaray, the reports said, considered the demand too exorbitant and is seeking other ways to overcome the ongoing impasse. In the meantime, the reliable Samanyolu TV station reported on its Web site that Nonda is not interested in playing for Trabzonspor.
Nonda saga
“I am going nowhere,” Nonda’s manager quoted the Congolese player as saying. “I have scored 14 goals overall in the season’s first half. What else do they want me to do? I am being benched more often than not, but I don’t raise my voice. But this transfer thing is far more than I can take,” Nonda reportedly stated.
If Nonda does not want to go and the club presses on, then the Lions may be forced to allow the striker to declare himself a free agent, thereby making him as free as air to negotiate with any team of his choice for a new contract.
Another rumor surrounding the Gökhan transfer is that Trabzonspor approached the Fenerbahçe Yellow Canaries and asked them if they were interested in acquiring Gökhan.
The reports said the offer from Fener was more lucrative than Galatasaray’s because Turkey striker Semih Şentürk seems to have fallen out with Fener’s German coach Christophe Daum and so the Canaries need a new striker. To what extent these reports are true will become clear in the days ahead.
In the meantime, Gökhan accompanied the Storm to its Antalya training camp, but he did not appear to be the best of moods.
Kayseri denies poking fun at Galatasaray
The reported transfer of Kayserispor defender Ali Turan to Galatasaray has literally turned into a “snake story” -- a term used in Turkish to describe a messy problem with no solution in sight.
The local sports media rumor mill trumpeted early last week that the Ali Turan “deal with Galatasaray, worth $150,000, was almost done.” But the same media sources later in the week quoted Kayserispor sports secretary Yücel Şahin as saying that he was poking fun at Galatasaray because no player could be acquired for that meager amount.
On Saturday Şahin spoke to clear the air. “Reports were splashed across some Web sites today that I poked fun at Galatasaray by saying no player could be sold for $150,000. These reports do no not reflect the truth,” he said. “I didn’t mock Galatasaray and will never do so,” he further stated.
But reports late on Saturday said Ali has agreed in principle to join Ankaragücü. Galatasaray or Ankaragücü, which are we to believe?
Real not interested in dos Santos
This time it was the Spanish media that came up with the rumor that Real Madrid was interested in acquiring Fenerbahçe’s Brazil defender André Clarindo dos Santos for 15 million euros.
According to the Spanish rumormongers, Real wanted to sign dos Santos and his Benfica compatriot David Luiz Moreira Marinho to replace another Brazilian center back, Képler Laveran Lima Ferreira (Pepe), whose season has come to an end due to injury.
But Real sports director Jorge Valdano has stated that the club, which spent up to $252 million on transfers in the pre-season, does not intend to purchase or sell any player until the end of the season. Furthermore, Real coach Manule Pellegrini also said he will use Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay to fill the vacuum created by Pepe’s absence.
And so the dos Santos transfer rumor evaporated into thin air even as it developed into a serious speculation.

Striker Semih Şenturk sets conditions
Fenerbahçe’s striker Semih Şenturk, who has been reduced to a permanent substitute by German coach Chistoph Daum, has set out conditions for continuing with the Fener Yellow Canaries.
The striker, according to reports in the local sport media, wants a three-year contract and 2.5 million euros per year.
“If these conditions are not met, I am not going to sign a new contract [with Fener]. As a matter of fact, I am fed up sitting on the substitute bench,” Semih reportedly said.
In the meantime, Fenerbahçe unilaterally extended Semih’s contract, with an annual raise of 100,000 euros, disregarding the one-year option, and the player’s lawyer reportedly has taken the case to the Turkish Soccer Federation (TFF).
Reports said that Fener will look into Semih’s demands today. Let’s see how things work out.
