Zola set for St Andrews
Last Updated: Wed, 16 Apr 2008 16:02
Birmingham have taken Congolese midfielder Zola Matumona on a three-day trial as he hopes to win a move from FC Brussels.
The 26-year-old impressed Blues scouts while playing for his country against Algeria and he is looking forward to the chance to shine.
"I should already be there but I have had problems with my visa that delayed my departure," he told La Derniere Heure in Belgium.
"Birmingham's president contacted (Brussels boss) Johan Vermeersch, who agreed to me going there for three days.
"I presume an agreement between both clubs is possible. As a consequence, I will try and show the best from myself."
Matumona is in his second season in the Belgian top flight and although he has made 19 starts for the capital-based club, the team's form has slumped and they currently sit at the bottom of the table.

Birmingham trial for Zola
by Laurent Picard, 16 April 2008
FC Brussels midfielder Zola Matumona has started a three-day trial period with Premier League strugglers Birmingham.
The 26-year-old impressed Blues during a friendly game with Congo against Algeria and he is looking forward to the chance to shine.
“I should already be there but I have had problems with my visa that delayed my departure,” he told La Derniere Heure.
“Birmingham’s president contacted (Brussels boss) Johan Vermeersch, who agreed to me going there for three days.
“I presume an agreement between both clubs is possible. As a consequence, I will try and show the best from myself.
“It is useless to say how attracted I am by this challenge.”
It has been suggested the diminutive Matumona may struggle to adapt to the physical nature of The Premier League, but he is confident in his own ability.
He added: “My little size? English football is physical but it changes and similar players manage to impose themselves.
“I am tempted by France as well, but not by Turkey.
“I will not decide anything without the president Vermeersch’s agreement even if I am my own man regarding my future destination.
“Brussels permitted me to show myself in Europe.”
