DRC CONGO, HERE FLAMES COME
Font size: TIMAU with SEMBE GONDWE 06 June, 2008 01:05:00
Late John Msonthi was former President Kamuzu Banda’s interpreter. Msonthi was translating the English language into Chichewa in immense fashion; Banda himself could not believe his ears when John Msonthi translated his (Kamuzu) own verbal skill into Chichewa.
"I am at my best where there is opposition," roared the Lion. This is how Msonthi interpreted Banda’s words, "Apo njuchi ziluma mpo npita ine." Today, the Timau Crew can courageously say that, "apo njuchi ziluma mpo tipita ife."
We are oozing with confidence that 2010 will turn our dreams into reality. The Flames have six games to see themselves in Angola and South Africa. One has been a prize winning victory and put aside. Five are coming. The mighty Flames will singe them one by one as they draw closer.
DRC Congo is currently preparing to be playing with our endowed youthful players. When Malawi national football team walks out of DRC Congo as frontrunners no one will have more cause for relief than Kinnah Phiri. Very few Malawians are giving our team a chance later on a local coach.
2010 is our year. We do not see why we can not even be second best and qualify for the Africa cup of nations in Angola. The team has started well.
The Flames walloped Djibouti 8-1 proving wrong all doubters. Surprisingly, some nonbelievers were in the forefront throwing rounds of beers in bars and taverns in celebrating the Flames victory.
This Sunday the Flames take on DRC Congo nicknamed the Leopards by their loving fans. The leopards have not had an illustrious record since there 1974 world cup debut.
DRC Congo camped in France where they played friendlies with local clubs.
Does this scare us? NO!
THE STADIUM
FIFA twice inspected the giant Chinese built 80 000 capacity stadium first the end of 2006 and again last October.
The Congolese federation has been asked to name an alternative venue because FIFA is not satisfied that the changes to improve the safety at the stadium had been implemented.
It is reported that visiting teams traditionally find the venue intimidating and the Congolese rarely lose competitive matches at home. Right now we do not know where the Flames will play the Leopards.
DRC CONGO PLAYERS
DRC Congo is formed of all European based players but all this does not shock us as most of their players play in weak teams in Europe.
Perhaps there dangerous player is the 28 year old Lomana Lualua who currently plays for a Greek side Olympiakos. He has played for English clubs before, Colchester united, Newcastle and Portsmouth.
And then there is the Turkey –based striker Shabani Nondi. Another big shot is Tresor Mabi Mputo who currently plays for TP Mazembe and was linked with premiership giants Arsenal last year.
Football is not played by names. Ivory Coast had deadly English premiership players at the just ended Africa cup in Ghana but did not make it to the finals.
Egypt does not have a Cristiano Ronaldo neither does Tunisia or Morocco have a Drogba but they win matches because they play as a team.
THE FLAMES
It’s a full house for Malawi. The team has been together for two weeks now and they have certainly developed a chemistry that will see them do the job. Clement Kafwafwa from Denmark will join this youthful team on Saturday.
The morale of the players is high and we can see them delivering come Sunday. The Flames strength is not on names but as a collective bunch.
The GAMES
The Flames are remaining with five games. A win on Sunday will certainly seal our qualification, and a draw will not be bad either. If the boys lose on Sunday, members of the Timau Crew will still have their sleep.
In 1976, Bata Bullets under the tutelage of Henry Moyo lost 4-1 against shooting Stars of Nigeria and won 1-0 at the Kamuzu Stadium. The same Bata lost 4-2 to a club from Madagascar at the Kamuzu stadium and won 4-0 in Tananarevi.
Bakili Bullets under the guidance of Kinnah Phiri lost 6-1 to Enyimba of Nigeria and drew 1-1 with them in Blantyre. Such is the philosophy of football.
Vuwa Kaunda
Vuwa Kaunda is the new Minister of Sports. This man has the lady luck with him. Football is not all about good coaches and players but you also need the lucky charm on your side. Some people are jinxed.
If they are associated with our national team we always lose. This man (Vuwa Kaunda) seems to have the lucky charm. Ever since he was appointed Minister for sports money started pouring in to the game of football. The Flames started winning.
One thing Mr. Minister, anyamata azichita kubvala ma T-shirt mundege. (Get suits for the players) this is justified by Flames skipper, Peter Mponda’s comment on the meagre dressing of the national team players when they are travelling.
The boys used to wear suits during Kamuzu’s time. If you do not know what to do, give the local tailors Timau Crew the Contract, tiwasokele masuti Ife anyamata.
This is a massive game not only for the players but for the nation as a whole. You are a hero when you can achieve something and our players know that for a long time they have been underachievers and this is the time.
DRC Congo, here we come.
Indeed, John Msonthi could have simply concluded by saying that, "apo DRC yamangana mpo tipita Ife."
No politics attached (paja ena thobvu).
We dedicate this article to former head of state Bakili Muluzi for his love of the Flames. He on so many occasions invited the Flames to his house to have a converse with the team.
He even had a message for the players, Kanundu ayi (do not smoke the wacky backy). The Timau Crew can reveal that the former President supports Manchester United of the English premiership. May God bless your helping hand; maybe you can buy suits for the boys, nanga anyamata azichita kuvala masingileti.
We also dedicate this article to the following people. Zorro Msiska, Harry Waya, Mathias Mwenda, Reuben Malola, may the souls of these sons of Malawi rest in piece.
On Sunday the victory is yours. 2010 we will do it for you guys.

Our article, Food For Thought: Politicians Crippling our Nation received an overwhelming applause Thank you but we wonders why some people felt like as if it was a who is who game on our Cocoa story.
We have unveiled a powerful thing and it is not a matter of trying kutishainila ife aTimau Crew. If you have ideas contact the Ministry of agriculture and let them do the feasibility study on the growing of cocoa in the lower shire.
Please if you want to criticise us which you are free to do read our articles thoroughly, we never said Cocoa is the only thing that is making Ghana rich. We even said in the article that minerals aside.
Understand the whole article before calling us names because that does not help as we simply laugh.

Marquer rapidement sera tres important
