CHIPOLOPOLO midfielder Rainford Kalaba
CHIPOLOPOLO midfielder Rainford Kalaba is in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) attempting to join TP Mazembe.
According to highly-placed sources, Kalaba travelled to DRC on Monday evening to explore the possibility of signing for the Congolese giants.
But Afrisport executive director Gabriel Kaunda and Kalaba's father Rainford have claimed ignorance over Kalaba's move to DRC.
"No, I am not aware of him going to TP Mazembe. Actually, I was with him yesterday Monday and he told me nothing," Kaunda claimed.
He said if there was any move for Kalaba, as the player's local agent, he would know.
Kalaba Snr said it was not possible for his son to sign for Mazembe until the contractual complexities at Portuguese side Sporting Braga and Zamalek were sorted out.
"He has a contract with Sporting Braga so he cannot sign for TP Mazembe and again remember he signed for Zamalek so the Mazembe deal I don't know anything about it," Kalaba Snr said.
He said the former Afrisport and Zesco United player was currently in Ndola.
"He is in Ndola actually and not in Congo," he said.
Kalaba signed a six-month contract with Zamalek after the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola despite having a running contract with Portuguese side Sporting Braga until 2013.
The 23-year-old Chipolopolo playmaker has since said he signed the Zamalek contract under duress.
Recently, former Mining Rangers and Chipolopolo defender Emmanuel Mbola signed for TP Mazembe despite having a running contract with Armenian side Pyunik Yerevan.
Mbola's transfer dispute between Mining Rangers and Yerevan, according to FAZ general secretary George Kasengele was reported to FIFA, but the player has since established base in Kinshansa where TP Mazembe is camped.
Mbola's transfer to TP Mazembe came shortly after Stophilla Sunzu, another former Afrisports player, embroiled himself in a contract dispute with Zanaco and TP Mazembe who Zanaco said he had signed for them before the Africa Cup of Nations.
Other Zambian players at TP Mazembe include Given Singuluma, Hichani Himoonde, Sunzu, Mbola and Sebastian Mwansa.
