Youssouf Mulumbu has sent mixed messages about the prospect of leaving West Bromwich Albion, insisting he has unfinished business in the Premier League.
The Congolese midfielder has been the subject of interest from Newcastle, who finished a place above the Baggies to win the Championship this season.
The 23-year-old, who moved to The Hawthorns from Paris St Germain in 2009 when the club were still in the Premier League, has only one year left on his contract and has yet to agree a new two-year extension offered to him.
Despite being a key part of manager Roberto Di Matteo's team, Mulumbu however has made no secret of clubs chasing him and that he is considering his options.
"There are other clubs interested, notably Newcastle, who are really keen and my agent has been in contact with them," he said in the Daily Mail. "There are also some Italian clubs."
Talking to the club's official website on the other hand, Mulumbu appeared to be happy at West Brom and eager to stay with the club as they once again enter the Premier League for the fourth time in 10 years.
Settled
"I am settled in England now," said Mulumbu. "It is a very good country, very good club, very good league.
"I'm very, very excited to play next year.
"I played good this season and now I'm happy because we've got promoted and we will get to play very good teams like Chelsea and Manchester United.
"I'm looking forward to playing in the Premier League because I came here, I got injured and only played six games last season.
"I think it's very good for everyone and we're all happy. I didn't get to show everything I think I can show in the Premier League. Now is my time."

Re: Mulumbu a Newcastle?
Whether Newcastle are also in the market for West Bromwich Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu remains to be seen, despite claims from the Congo international that the Magpies are trying to get him to leave the Hawthorns.
The 23-year-old has been a big success with the Baggies, but the leaking of Newcastle’s supposed interest may just be an attempt to get his current club to improve the terms of a new contract, particularly as he indicates he would like to remain in the West Midlands following his current club’s return to the top flight. Mulumbu has one year left on his existing deal and has been offered a two-year extension by the Baggies.
However, that contract has not been signed and the player claims his agent has been contacted by United officials in the last couple of weeks to express their interest.
The former France Under-21 international is the right age for Newcastle and would fit into their broad transfer strategy, but even with only 12 months left on his contract, West Brom know they will be entitled to compensation from a tribunal if he leaves at the end of it.
Speaking in the French press, Mulumbu said: “I have one year of my contract. We spoke with the (West Brom) directors, and they want me to extend for two more years. There are clubs that are interested – including Newcastle, who are really interested and my agent is in contact. There are also clubs in Italy.
“Me? I really want to stay at West Brom because I learned a lot there. Going up to the Premier League with this team, I would have more chances to play.
“But after that, we must find common ground with the directors so that I can stay. My first idea is to stay at West Brom, but if negotiations do not go well, I think that I would perhaps look elsewhere.”
